Welcome to Essex Skills for Life Professional Development Centre Essex Skills for Life (SfL) Professional Development Centre (PDC) was officially launched on the 18th March 2007. We are based in the Faculty of Education at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford. We aim to: - Promote, support and co-ordinate access to literacy, numeracy and ESOL teaching and support qualifications and continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities
- Identify and disseminate effective practice in SfL teaching and learning
- Develop a resource, facility and service for all employers, organisations and individuals who are or who want to engage with SfL in Essex.
We have already organised a series of successful training events which have attracted over 700 participants from organisations across Essex. Our programme of forthcoming local training events together with regional and national training opportunities can be found under courses and events in our calendar.

In Resources and Research , you can view our developing resource collection at the University Library and link to a range of downloadable publications concerned with effective practice in SfL teacher training, teaching, learning and support. An explanation of the qualification routes from September 2007 for new, unqualified or part-qualified SfL teachers, the requirements for qualified teacher status and for CPD for existing teachers can be found in our Introduction to Training and Professional Development .
